The Butler and Globe yards were big enough to have their own bands composed of volunteers from the ranks of their workers. They usually provided patriotic music at ship launchings, and the Butler band at right is on parade, led by a color guard. The Butler marching band was even provided with its own distinctive uniforms. (BVC.)

This band, assembled for a Butler Superior ship launching, is considerably less formal than the marching band. The saxophonist on the right is clearly a yard worker, while the attire of the trumpet player on the left implies upper management. The bands provided entertainment at employee parties and ship launchings and were generally good for morale. (BVC.)
